Turkey police seize 53 in nationwide internet modem fraud raid

Police coordinated by the Kayseri Chief Prosecutor carried out simultaneous raids in six Turkish provinces – Ankara, Kocaeli, Istanbul, Bursa, Antalya and Mersin – targeting a criminal network that operated fake internet‑service websites. The scheme used unregistered mobile numbers to sell bogus “modem” subscriptions, affecting an estimated 17,156 citizens nationwide.

Authorities say the fraud generated about 757 million Turkish lira in bank transactions, with 204 victims in Kayseri alone suffering losses of roughly 1.1 million lira. In the operation 53 suspects were detained; 31 of them were later forwarded to the courts and imprisoned.
