Turkey salary updates: Inflation forecasts shape January 2027 raises

Millions of civil servants and retirees in Turkey are awaiting salary updates for January 2027, amid concerns regarding the impact of inflation on purchasing power. Experts and official institutions have provided various inflation forecasts that will determine the final raise amounts.

Social Security Expert İsa Karakaş predicts that if year-end inflation reaches approximately 30%, SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees could see increases between 9.5% and 10.5%, while civil servants may receive between 7.5% and 8.5%. These projections are based on different economic scenarios, including the Central Bank's revised year-end CPI expectation of 28% and the Economic Outlook Index estimate of 30.32%.

There is significant concern regarding the collective bargaining mechanism. Karakaş noted that in July 2026, despite a 6-month cumulative inflation of 17.76%, salary updates were only 13.52%, resulting in a loss of real income. Current data from July and August 2026 shows a two-month cumulative inflation of 3.65%, which remains below the 7% threshold required to trigger an inflation difference adjustment for civil servants.
