Turkish Politicians Inspect Domestic Factories Amid Economic Concerns

CHP İzmir provincial chair Utku Gümrükçü toured a textile factory in Çiğli, İzmir, where he joined workers for lunch and criticised the ruling government for failing to “stitch” the economy. He highlighted rising production costs, high energy bills, green‑transition expenses, and financing challenges that are pushing Turkish textile firms toward relocation in North Africa and Southeast Asia.

In Düzce, AK Party MP Ercan Öztürk and provincial chairman Hasan Şengüloğlu visited Çelebi Kalıp Makina, a 35‑year‑old manufacturer of critical components for the automotive and defence sectors. The officials praised the plant’s contribution to regional employment and to Turkey’s broader industrial base.

Both visits reflect heightened political focus on the manufacturing sector as Turkey grapples with inflation, high energy prices and competitiveness issues.
