Türkiye Basın Federasyonu protests Gaza crisis and Netanyahu's remarks

The Türkiye Basın Federasyonu (TÜBAF) held a protest in Ankara at the Israeli Embassy to highlight the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and condemn remarks made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding Turkey and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. TÜBAF President Sinan Burhan emphasized that the federation would continue to report on the situation to ensure the crisis does not fall off the global agenda.

According to data shared by TÜBAF, the death toll in Gaza has reached 74,622, including 22,000 children. Additionally, 62,000 people have reportedly died from hunger and disease. The federation reported that 1,244 mosques have been targeted or bombed, approximately 2 million people have been displaced, and 84 percent of Gaza has been destroyed.

Regarding media casualties, TÜBAF stated that 276 journalists have been killed in Gaza, with 265 deaths occurring before the ceasefire and 11 after. Separately, the Gaza Media Office reported that 262 journalists have died since October 2023, with over 433 injured. The media sector has suffered estimated damages exceeding 800 million dollars.

In response to Netanyahu's comments, Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz stated that the Israeli government's remarks against Turkey carry no weight and characterized the attempts to target the Turkish presidency as a futile effort to cover up crimes being investigated in international courts.
