Turkish prisoners denied medical care and refute marriage rumors

Political detainee Werişe Muradi has not been transferred to any external health facility for more than nine months despite doctors’ recommendations, leaving her without needed treatment for a bowel disorder and severe cervical disc herniation. Her lawyers say prison officials have also withheld medical equipment even when the family offered to supply it, and that existing restrictions on family visits remain in force.

Former Habertürk editor Mehmet Akif Ersoy, also held on a prohibited‑material investigation, was rumored to have married while incarcerated. His attorney categorically denied the claim, citing an up‑to‑date civil‑registry record confirming Ersoy’s single status and offering to provide the relevant documentation if required.
