Turkish producers report economic distress in hazelnut and weaving sectors
In Samsun, YENI Party Bafra District President Serkan Dönüm has called on the Turkish Grain Board (TMO) to implement quota-free hazelnut purchases. Dönüm stated that production costs for hazelnuts have exceeded 250 TL per kilogram for the 2026 season, making the official TMO purchase prices insufficient to cover expenses. He further alleged that producers are struggling to secure appointments for product delivery and that international companies are increasingly influencing market prices.
In Denizli, CHP Provincial President Ayhan Oran highlighted the decline of the 700-year-old weaving tradition in the Babadağ district. Local officials reported that many of the district's approximately 5,000 weaving machines have been decommissioned or scrapped due to rising energy, labor, and production costs. Additionally, the Babadağ Tradesmen and Craftsmen Chamber noted a significant increase in debt enforcement actions among local businesses, rising from 10 percent to 70 percent.
