Istanbul prosecutors expand money laundering investigation involving Sarıgül family

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has expanded its investigation into allegations of large-scale money laundering through domestic and international companies. As part of this latest development, authorities have appointed a trustee to the Şişli Vocational School, an institution co-founded by Mustafa Sarıgül.

Prosecutors have issued detention orders for 11 individuals, including the school's founding director. The investigation follows complaints from two German citizens alleging that significant sums of money were laundered through various companies and that investment contracts were misused. Specific allegations include a 100 million euro transfer and promises to move a 1 billion euro fund abroad using public influence.

As of November 6, 2026, 28 people remain in custody in connection with the probe. Previous detainees include Mustafa Sarıgül's sons, Ömer and Emir Sarıgül, as well as journalist Murat Ağırel. Mustafa Sarıgül's personal file has been separated and forwarded to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for independent evaluation. The politician has also announced his resignation from the Yeni Parti.
