Turkish provinces hold workshops for 2027–2031 disaster risk reduction plans
Turkish provinces Van and Yalova are conducting workshops to develop the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Plan (IRAP) for the 2027–2031 period. These sessions aim to increase urban resilience and minimize the impact of future disasters through coordinated action between public institutions, universities, and local governments.
In Van, the AFAD Provincial Directorate is coordinating efforts to evaluate current risks and establish a five-year roadmap of measurable actions. The workshop focuses on defining the roles and responsibilities of various stakeholders to ensure effective inter-institutional cooperation.
In Yalova, officials are addressing a wide range of potential threats, including earthquakes, landslides, floods, fires, and industrial accidents. Abdulkadir Tezcan, Head of the AFAD Earthquake and Risk Reduction Department, emphasized the importance of prioritizing risk reduction over mere emergency response. Yalova Governor Ahmet Hamdi Usta noted that the city's strategic location and industrial nature necessitate comprehensive planning to manage its unique risk profile.
