Turkish Public Offerings on Borsa Istanbul Top $1 Billion
By mid‑July 2024, a total of 24 companies began trading on Borsa Istanbul, pushing the cumulative value of their public offerings above $1.084 billion. This breached the previous year's total and crossed the $1 billion threshold for the first time in the calendar year. The rapid pace follows 16 offerings in the first half of the year and eight more in the first ten days of July, a tempo that analysts say could approach the record‑setting activity of 2023, when 56 companies listed.
Tera Yatırım, which underwrote roughly 21 % of the year's offerings, quoted its general manager Emir Münir Sarpyener saying the figures demonstrate “strong confidence in Turkey’s economy, companies and capital markets despite global uncertainty, geopolitical risks and the ongoing US‑Iran conflict.” He added that the firm expects the offering wind to continue through the remainder of the year.
The surge reflects sustained investor interest, with about 3.9 million individual investors participating and total demand for the offerings reaching 13.4 billion Turkish lira. The market’s resilience comes amid broader geopolitical tensions, highlighting continued trust in Turkey’s financial sector.
