Turkish Red Crescent announces medical aid for Gaza and patients in Cairo

Turkish Red Crescent President Prof. Dr. Fatma Meriç Yılmaz has announced significant humanitarian and medical aid initiatives for Gaza and Palestinian patients being treated in Egypt. During a visit to Cairo, Yılmaz met with patients evacuated from Gaza and coordinated with the Egyptian Red Crescent to address the collapsing healthcare system in the Gaza Strip.

As part of the Gaza Health Support Project, the Turkish Red Crescent has sent approximately 10.5 million Turkish Liras worth of medical supplies, consisting of 34 different items, to the Al Emel and Al Mawasi hospitals operated by the Palestine Red Crescent. The organization has also committed to covering medication, medical consumables, and operational expenses for these two hospitals for six months starting October 1, 2025.

Additionally, Yılmaz announced a new three-month support program for the Palestine Red Crescent Hospital in Cairo, with a budget of approximately 3.2 million Turkish Liras, to assist Palestinian patients struggling with treatment costs.

Regarding logistics, Yılmaz reported significant delays at the Rafah Border Crossing. While a commitment was made for 600 humanitarian aid trucks to enter Gaza daily, only about 100 trucks are currently making the crossing. She noted that 160 trucks of aid prepared by the Turkish Red Crescent are currently awaiting entry.
