Turkish Red Crescent launches prosthetic support project in Gaza

The Turkish Red Crescent has launched a Prosthesis-Orthosis Support Project in Gaza to assist those who have suffered limb loss due to ongoing conflicts. The region has seen a high rate of conflict-related amputations, particularly among children.

In coordination with local hospitals and rehabilitation centers, the project has already provided its first recipient, 24-year-old Udey Abu Verde, with a below-the-knee prosthesis following a leg injury sustained in a 2024 bombardment. Abu Verde noted that the device would allow him to regain independence and mobility.

In addition to prosthetic support, the Turkish Red Crescent is managing broader humanitarian efforts in Gaza. This includes the distribution of 100 tons of clean water daily to combat rising temperatures and water scarcity, as well as operating soup kitchens that provide hot meals to 30,000 people every day.
