Turkey celebrates Ahilik Haftası across multiple provinces

Ahilik Haftası (Ahilik Week) is being celebrated across various provinces in Turkey, honoring the 13th-century socio-economic tradition of Ahi Evran. The festivities, which emphasize honesty, solidarity, and professional ethics among tradespeople, include ceremonies such as the 'şed kuşatma' (girding of the apron) and parades in cities including Kayseri, Balıkesir, Osmaniye, Manisa, Kırşehir, and Kütahya.

During the events, Turkish Ministry of Trade Deputy Mahmut Gürcan highlighted ongoing inspections across 81 provinces to prevent unfair pricing and consumer deception. He also noted government support for tradespeople, including credit deferrals and subsidies provided following the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Political leaders, including MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, have issued messages praising the Ahilik system as a civilizational project that integrates professional expertise with moral values. Local celebrations also feature awards for the 'Ahi of the Year,' master craftsmen, and apprentices, aiming to preserve the master-apprentice relationship for future generations.
