Turkish rescue leader Nasuh Mahruki's detention upheld by court

AKUT Foundation president Nasuh Mahruki, detained for an alleged social‑media post about the July 15, 2016 coup attempt, had his petition to lift the detention rejected by a Turkish court. The judges justified the decision by citing the nature of the alleged offence of publicly inciting hatred, the current state of evidence, the pending collection of further proof, a risk of flight, and the proportionality of continued custody, concluding that alternative judicial control measures would be insufficient.

Mahruki’s lawyer Şehmus Tekik contended that no such wording appears in his client’s post, calling the detention a serious concern for the rule of law and an unlawful restriction of freedom of expression. The legal team said they will continue to challenge the ruling.
