Turkish residents build DIY transport solutions for difficult terrain

In Turkey, two individuals have used their technical skills to build custom transportation solutions to overcome difficult terrain and health challenges.

In Trabzon’s Köprübaşı district, 78-year-old retired iron and steel worker Hüseyin Kadıoğlu constructed a 120-meter rail system to reach his home. The house is situated on a steep slope with a 37.5-degree incline and no accessible road. Using his professional experience, Kadıoğlu designed and built a motorized rail system that allows him to travel the distance in approximately 1.5 minutes, significantly reducing the time compared to the 500-meter walk.

In Osmaniye, Hamdi Yaşar Kandemir built a custom elevator for his highland home to assist his wife, Döne Kandemir, who is a dialysis patient. After his wife suffered a hip fracture from attempting to climb the 60 steps leading to their residence, Kandemir designed and installed an elevator with an 800-kilogram capacity. The system is used for both transporting people and moving heavy household goods and groceries.
