Turkish retirees demand minimum‑wage pensions amid rising inflation

Retirees in Eskişehir gathered at the Emek Café, where DEV EMEKLİ‑SEN Eskişehir branch president Hatice Kılıç denounced a system that favors capital while leaving pensioners in poverty. She cited soaring inflation and food prices and called for the lowest pension to be lifted to at least the net minimum wage.

In Izmir, members of the DISK Revolutionary Retirees Union assembled outside the Social Security Institution office. Central executive board member Ercan Çınarlı echoed the demand, rejecting “charity” and insisting on “rights,” while accusing the government of misusing public funds. He also urged that pension payments not fall below the minimum‑wage threshold.
