Turkish retirees protest for supplemental pension payments

Civil servant retirees in Turkey are pursuing legal action regarding a 2023 supplemental payment (seyyanen zam) of 8,077 Turkish Liras that was granted to active employees but not applied to retirees. The Constitutional Court (AYM) has recently moved to consolidate individual applications regarding this issue, a procedural step that will determine whether the payment must be extended to retirees to uphold the principle of equality.

In response to the ongoing legal process, approximately 20 retiree associations have organized a protest scheduled for September 25 in front of the Constitutional Court. The campaign, which claims to have collected 1 million signatures, aims to accelerate the court's decision. Legal representatives state that the current economic value of the unpaid 2023 increment is approximately 25,250 Liras, and the total accumulated loss for affected individuals has reached 1 million Liras.

While the central demonstration will take place in Ankara, retiree organizations have planned simultaneous local press statements in various provinces, including Antalya and Alanya, to support the movement.
