Ahbap Derneği investigation draws Turkish celebrities to testify

Turkey’s Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the Ahbap Derneği charity for alleged financial misconduct linked to disaster‑relief donations. The probe has examined bank transfers, high‑value payments, property deals and container purchases. A fourth‑wave operation added 13 arrests, bringing the total number of detainees to 28.

Several high‑profile figures have been summoned to give statements, including singer‑actress Gülben Ergen, filmmaker Mahsun Kırmızıgül, journalist Uğur Dündar, actress Elçin Sangu and rock musician Hayko Cepkin. Lawyer Feyza Altun testified that she never organised a donation call, made no monetary contribution to Ahbap and regrets earlier praise of the charity. Mahsun Kırmızıgül said he helped Haluk Levent during past hardships and participated in 2023 earthquake relief but did not donate personally. Ergen announced she will freeze her X account after completing her testimony.
