Turkish soldier Yusuf Sait Ünlü killed during border operation

Turkish Ministry of National Defense announced that Infantry Contracted Private Yusuf Sait Ünlü was martyred on October 31, 2026, in the Yüksekova district of Hakkari. The incident occurred in the Esendere region while soldiers from the 7th Border Brigade Command were intervening in a border crossing event.

Ünlü was wounded by gunfire during the intervention and was airlifted to Hakkari State Hospital. Despite medical efforts, he could not be saved. The Ministry of National Defense and Defense Minister Yaşar Güler issued condolences to the family and the nation.

A funeral ceremony was held in the Çine district of Aydın, where Ünlü resided. The service was attended by Aydın Governor Osman Varol, local members of parliament, military officials, and many citizens. He was laid to rest in the Altınova Cemetery. His family noted that he was in his fourth year of service and had been planning to marry in December.
