Turkish sports infrastructure faces earthquake safety updates
In Hatay, officials are calling for Hatayspor to return to playing home matches in Antakya. President Tanrıcı emphasized that the club is a symbol of solidarity following the February 6 earthquakes, which caused significant sporting and economic losses. He urged relevant institutions to coordinate the completion of stadium and sports infrastructure to reunite the team with its fans and support the local economy.
In Kuşadası, the Municipal Council has decided to demolish the covered grandstand of the Özer Türk Stadium after core tests determined it is unsafe due to earthquake risks. Deputy Mayor Tahsin Demirtaş stated that the cost of reinforcing the 25-year-old structure exceeds the cost of rebuilding by 40 percent. He clarified that the site will be used for its intended purpose as a sports area rather than being converted into a shopping mall.
