Darphane launches KMTS to combat gold counterfeiting in Turkey

The Turkish Mint (Darphane) has launched the Precious Metals Tracking System (KMTS) to combat gold counterfeiting and fraud in the physical gold market. This new security measure introduces a QR code system for gram, quarter, and Republic gold products.

Under the KMTS, gold products will be registered with unique security codes and stickers during the production phase. This allows for a two-stage verification process designed to prevent the duplication of codes or the production of counterfeit packaging. Consumers can use a mobile application provided by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance to scan the QR code on their purchase. This scan provides a digital certificate containing critical information, including the manufacturer, production date, location, weight, and purity.

The system aims to increase transparency and traceability for all precious metals weighing 1 gram or more produced by refineries. By providing instant official confirmation via smartphone, the initiative seeks to protect investors from non-standard or untraceable products and ensure a more secure trading environment in the physical gold market.
