Turkish swimmer Aysu Türkoğlu completes 45‑km Tsugaru Channel crossing in 13.8 hours

Aysu Türkoğlu, a 25‑year‑old ultramarathon swimmer from Bodrum, successfully swam the 45‑kilometre Tsugaru Channel in Japan, the sixth leg of the Ocean's Seven series. The swim lasted about 13 hours 50 minutes, beginning at 22:10 local time and ending at 11:55 the following day. She became the second Turkish athlete and the youngest Turkish swimmer worldwide to complete this notoriously difficult passage, which is known for strong currents, variable weather and limited daylight windows.

Türkoğlu was accompanied by officials from the Japanese Swimming Federation, an organization committee and her own support team. Upon finishing she raised the Turkish flag, sang the national anthem and announced her next target: the final Ocean's Seven leg across the Strait of Gibraltar.
