Turkish swimmer Tuna Tunca readies for North Channel leg of Ocean's Seven

Twenty‑three‑year‑old Tuna Tunca, an autistic swimmer from İzmir, Turkey, is preparing to swim the 36‑kilometre stretch between Donaghadee in Northern Ireland and Portpatrick in Scotland. The crossing, part of the Ocean's Seven challenge, is scheduled for 21‑28 July and will be performed in water temperatures of 11‑14 °C amid strong currents and jellyfish.

Tunca trains under the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Sports Club with daily cold‑water sessions, physiotherapy, and a specialist nutrition plan overseen by her mother, Gülnur Tunca. A preparatory cold‑water camp is set for 8 July. She has already completed the English Channel and the Strait of Gibraltar legs of the challenge and aims to finish the remaining routes later this summer.
