Turkish teachers seek cancellation of assistant principal appointments
Teachers appointed as assistant principals under the Ministry of National Education are increasingly requesting the cancellation of their appointment decrees. This trend follows a change in the scoring system, which now includes total years of teaching service alongside previous administrative experience. This shift has allowed senior teachers with high seniority to outscore candidates who held administrative roles more recently.
In their petitions to provincial and district national education directorates, many teachers have cited two primary concerns: the difficulty of adapting to new digital administrative systems—such as e-Okul and Electronic Document Management Systems (EBYS)—and the high operational workload caused by large student populations in their assigned schools. There is ongoing speculation regarding how the resulting vacancies will be filled, with expectations for additional appointments or the use of reserve lists.
