Turkish Tobacco Industry Hosts International Scientific Meeting in Izmir
The 65th sub‑group meeting of the Agricultural Chemical Analysis Committee was held in Izmir under the auspices of the Ege Tobacco Exporters Association (ETİB) and the Izmir Chamber of Commerce. Seventeen countries sent scientists, researchers and tobacco‑sector representatives to discuss standards for Turkish oriental tobacco, which the host highlighted as a key economic and cultural asset.
Chairman Selim Jimi stressed the importance of standardized agronomic chemical tests as a shield against global regulatory risks. Delegates examined topics such as plant‑protection product safety, sustainable farming, the legacy of banned pesticides like DDT, and the current status of PFAS contaminants in tobacco analysis. The programme also reviewed CORESTA’s global mission and the work of the Chemical Pesticide Advisory Committee (ACAC).
