Turkish Treasury to auction debt securities amid shifting investment returns
The Turkish Treasury is scheduled to conduct four separate government debt securities (DİBS) auctions on October 8 to meet financing needs. The auctions will involve borrowing 5 billion TL, 7 million USD, and 14 million GBP. To mitigate exchange rate risks, foreign currency proceeds will be converted into Turkish Lira through swap transactions.
In terms of investment performance, data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) shows that government debt securities provided the highest real returns in September. When adjusted for the Producer Price Index (Yİ-ÜFE), DİBS yielded a 1.18% return, outperforming gold and the BIST 100 index, which saw losses. Over a three-month period, deposit interest rates emerged as the leading investment tool for real returns, while the BIST 100 index recorded the highest losses.
