Turkish veterans start hunger strike demanding equal benefits
Veterans and families of fallen soldiers have been occupying Ankara’s Güvenpark since July 13, pressing for uniform pay, social rights, health and rehabilitation services, pension and compensation. On the 21st day of the sit‑in, they began a hunger strike, saying no concrete steps have been taken on their demands.
Two brigadier generals, sent by Defence Minister Yaşar Güler, visited the protestors and expressed support, but the veterans warned that without tangible action they will continue the strike. Association president Erdem Çerçioğlu reiterated that the protest will remain until the promised legal reforms are enacted.
