Turkey and Northern Cyprus inaugurate new state hospitals
Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz and Northern Cyprus Prime Minister Ünal Üstel inaugurated the Girne and Güzelyurt State Hospitals, marking a significant milestone in the bilateral health cooperation between Turkey and Northern Cyprus.
Under the 2026 Economic and Financial Cooperation Agreement, 1.514 billion Turkish Liras have been allocated to the health sector. The Girne State Hospital features a 12,000-square-meter facility with 146 beds, five operating rooms, and a 10-bed intensive care unit. Turkey provided support through 185 items of medical equipment and 125 patient beds.
Prime Minister Üstel emphasized that the two nations are aligned in their national cause and that these investments are part of a broader plan to modernize the region's infrastructure. Future projects include the ongoing construction of the 343-bed Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu Hospital in Nicosia, expected to open in 2027, and the Pamuklu State Hospital, targeted for completion by the end of this year.
