German basketball teams split results in Cologne double-header

The German national basketball teams participated in a double-header event at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne. The men's team, led by Dennis Schröder, secured a 99:83 victory against the Netherlands, marking their sixth win in seven games during the World Cup 2027 qualification phase.

In contrast, the German women's team suffered a narrow 62:63 defeat against Turkey in their final warm-up match before the upcoming Women's Basketball World Cup in Berlin. The women's squad faced challenges including the absence of several WNBA players, such as Leonie Fiebich and Nyara Sabally, due to travel or injury.

The event served as a major showcase for German basketball, featuring a documentary titled ‘Macherinnen – die neue Ära im Basketball’ on ZDF, which highlights the progress of the women's national team ahead of their home tournament starting September 4.
