Turks and Caicos travel alerts warn of crime risk and stress sun protection

The U.S. State Department has issued a Level 2 travel advisory for the Turks and Caicos Islands, citing elevated crime rates, while the U.K. Foreign Office describes the territory as generally safe but advises travelers to remain vigilant. The islands attract over one million tourists annually, most of whom visit without incident.

Health officials also caution visitors about intense Caribbean sunshine. Ultraviolet exposure peaks between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m., increasing risks of sunburn, premature skin aging, cataracts, and skin cancers. Recommended protections include seeking shade during peak hours, wearing UV‑blocking clothing, wide‑brimmed hats, sunglasses, and applying sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every two hours or after swimming.
