Turkuaz Polyester addresses black smoke emissions in Dilovası

Turkuaz Polyester, a manufacturing facility located in the Gebze Kimya İhtisas Organize Sanayi Bölgesi (GEBKİM) in Dilovası, Kocaeli, issued a statement following reports of black smoke and odors emanating from its chimneys.

Local residents and workers expressed concerns regarding potential chemical exposure after capturing footage of the smoke. In response, the company explained that the incident was caused by a technical malfunction in the thermal oxidizer system's serpentines, which led to a temporary oxygen deficiency and reduced combustion efficiency.

The company stated that technical teams intervened immediately to secure the system. According to the firm, the incident was recorded by the GEBKİM Environmental Unit and reported to the Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change. Following an inspection by the Provincial Directorate of Environment, officials reportedly found no findings that threatened human health or the environment.
