Turning Point USA marks one year since Charlie Kirk's assassination
One year after the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University, his widow and successor, Erika Kirk, is reflecting on her grief and the organization's future. In a recent guest essay, Erika described the experience of losing her husband as a “fever dream” and discussed the challenges of raising their two children alone.
Turning Point USA has seen significant growth in the year since Kirk's death, with its college chapter presence increasing by 64% to approximately 1,500 locations. The organization now reports over 1 million donors and 1,200 employees. However, the movement faces internal and external pressures, including legal proceedings against the alleged killer, Tyler Robinson, and debates over the organization's leadership and ideological direction.
Controversy has also emerged at Georgetown University, where students reportedly used the anonymous social media platform Fizz to promote a Charlie Kirk “lookalike contest” to mark the anniversary of his death. The planned event, which garnered thousands of upvotes, was condemned by the university's Turning Point USA chapter. Georgetown University spokespeople stated the institution had no knowledge of or involvement in the planned event.
