Turnov library opening delayed after flood damage

The opening of the new Antonín Marek Municipal Library in Turnov, a modern community and educational center costing over 115 million CZK, has been delayed due to heavy rainfall.

Torrential rain caused water to penetrate the building, reportedly due to a clogged drainage system on the roof. The flooding damaged walls, furniture, the computer system, and approximately 1,000 books. While an initial opening was planned for September 1, Mayor Tomáš Hocke stated that the opening will be postponed, potentially until the end of September at the earliest.

The new facility in Skálova Street was designed to expand public space and provide better accessibility than the previous location. Efforts are currently underway to dry the premises, inventory damaged property, and repair the defects.
