Tuscaloosa City Schools considers expanding parking lot security cameras

The Tuscaloosa City Schools Board of Education is set to vote on a proposal to expand security camera coverage in parking areas across five district locations. The plan involves installing 16 cameras at Central High School, Northridge High School, Paul W. Bryant High School, the Tuscaloosa Career & Technology Academy, and the district's Central Office.

Under the proposed 60-month agreement, Alabama Power Company would provide and maintain the camera system, which will integrate with the district's existing Milestone video management system. While Alabama Power would own the equipment, Tuscaloosa City Schools would retain ownership of all collected data. The proposal requires no upfront installation costs, with an estimated combined monthly cost of approximately $3,402.44 for service and energy usage.

Deron Cameron, assistant superintendent of operations, stated that the expansion aims to provide greater visibility in high school parking lots and key areas to add a layer of security for students, employees, and visitors.
