Tuscan associations warn of ARPAT resource shortages
The Rete Toscana Tutela Beni Comuni has issued an alert regarding the potential weakening of ARPAT, the regional environmental protection agency in Tuscany. In a letter addressed to Regional President Eugenio Giani and other officials, the network is demanding increased resources, personnel, and equipment to ensure effective environmental monitoring.
The associations highlighted that regional funding has remained largely stagnant for a decade despite approximately 25% inflation. They cited difficulties in hiring, insufficient instrumentation, and a reduction in activities as critical issues. The group warned that these shortages hinder the agency's ability to meet new European obligations regarding air and water quality, potentially compromising the public system's ability to identify environmental and health hazards.
