Tuscan man investigated for AI-generated war videos
Giorgio Galimberti, a 32-year-old resident of Empoli, is under investigation by the Florence Public Prosecutor's Office for allegedly inciting violence. The investigation follows the creation of AI-generated videos that depict various Tuscan landmarks and historical sites as battlefields in the style of the video game 'Call of Duty'.
The videos, which gained popularity on social media through various meme pages, feature first-person perspectives with weapons, explosions, and military action set against iconic locations such as the Florence Palace of Justice, the walls of Lucca, Siena's Piazza del Campo, and the Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa. One scene specifically depicts a rocket being launched toward the Palace of Justice.
Authorities, including Digos and the Postal Police, conducted a search of Galimberti's home to look for materials related to terrorism or attacks. Galimberti has defended his work, stating the content was intended to be 'ironic' and 'satirical,' aiming to create a contrast between peaceful landscapes and intense combat scenes. He maintains that he had no intention of inciting hatred or violence.
