Tuscan municipalities partner with Consorzio di Bonifica for flood prevention

Municipal administrations in Tuscany are coordinating with the Consorzio di Bonifica 5 Toscana Costa to implement hydraulic safety measures and prevent hydrogeological instability ahead of heavy autumn and winter rains.

In Suvereto, officials have requested urgent joint inspections to identify critical maintenance needs, specifically targeting the Acquari stream near the Forni municipal road, an area previously affected by the autumn 2024 floods. The administration is also seeking a supra-municipal regulatory framework to standardize the maintenance of minor watercourses and drainage systems across the territory.

In Livorno, the municipality and the Consortium are executing works totaling approximately 630,000 euros. These interventions include vegetation clearing from riverbeds and banks, reshaping sections to ensure flow, and stabilizing slopes. The Consortium manages two pumping stations and eight expansion basins, with roughly 70% of the work performed directly by its own staff and 30% through external contractors.
