Tuscan wine sector shows stable revenue despite margin pressure
A study of 130 Tuscan wine companies reveals that while total revenues reached 1.431 billion euros in 2025—a 2.2% increase compared to 2023—profit margins are facing significant pressure. The EBITDA margin declined for approximately 63% of the analyzed firms, with smaller enterprises experiencing the most difficulty. International market shifts are particularly impacting red wines, which are a staple of Tuscan production.
In the broader Italian wine industry, generational transitions are playing a key role in business performance. According to the Visione Vino 2026 report, family-owned wineries that have completed a generational handover show 8.8% higher revenues and 18% higher investment levels compared to their peers. While family ownership remains central—accounting for 65% of the sector's assets and 81.5% when including cooperatives—nearly 40% of family businesses are currently in a transitional phase of leadership.
