Tuscany agricultural groups to host poplar cultivation seminar

Confagricoltura Toscana, Crea, and Ente terre regionali toscane are organizing a seminar titled ‘Prospettive di sviluppo della coltivazione del pioppo’ to be held on September 15 in Peccioli. The event aims to develop a Tuscan supply chain for poplar cultivation, balancing environmental sustainability with economic efficiency.

Currently, Italy produces high-quality poplar on approximately 50,000 hectares, but industrial demand exceeds local supply, forcing companies to import over 50% of raw materials. In Tuscany, research by Crea and CNR indicates a high potential for cultivation, with 14,000 hectares possessing ideal pedoclimatic conditions, though only 1,350 hectares are currently under cultivation.
