Tuscany and Umbria seek improved rail links to Rome

Regional transport officials from Tuscany and Umbria have formed a joint coalition to demand improvements to the Florence-Rome railway line. Tuscany's transport assessor Filippo Boni and Umbria's Francesco De Rebotti met to develop a shared platform of proposals to present to the Italian government, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, and railway operators.

The primary objectives include increasing Intercity services, enhancing long-distance connections, and improving service at intermediate stations such as Orvieto, Chiusi, and Terontola. A key point of discussion involves securing new high-speed rail (AV) stops in Chiusi, Arezzo, or Orvieto, as well as better integration between regional and high-speed services.

This initiative builds upon the ‘Patto di Chiusi’ (Chiusi Pact) and follows previous discussions held in Castiglione del Lago. The regional leaders aim to move toward concrete, rapidly implementable proposals that address the mobility needs of daily commuters and the specific requirements of their territories.
