Tuscany announces limited hunting pre-opening for September

The Tuscany Region has authorized a pre-opening for the 2026-2027 hunting season, scheduled for September 2 and September 6. This measure is not a general opening of the season, which is set to begin on September 20.

The pre-opening is strictly limited to the harvesting of three specific species: starlings, pigeons, and collared doves. This derogation is intended to prevent damage to agricultural crops. Specific limits have been set, including a maximum of 20 birds per day for starlings and pigeons, and 10 for collared doves. Regional quotas have also been established at 20,000 starlings, 20,000 pigeons, and 10,000 collared doves.

Hunting is restricted to specific areas, such as lands with certain agricultural crops or within 100 meters of them. For starlings, the rules apply to vineyards, olive groves, and orchards. Environmental associations have expressed opposition to these measures.
