Tuscany Approves Comprehensive Regional Hunting and Wildlife Management Plan

The Tuscany regional council approved a new wildlife management framework, the Piano Faunistico Venatorio Regionale, after a year‑long consultation with associations, citizens and council commissions. The 1,700‑page document aims to balance the interests of farmers, hunters and environmental groups.

President Eugenio Giani highlighted that the plan supports agriculture by protecting landowners and encourages the presence of hunters to sustain biodiversity. He also stressed the role of authentic environmental associations as custodians of the region’s natural beauty. Giani noted Tuscany’s unique geography – roughly 22,900 km² with a population of 3.6 million – which hosts rich fauna and extensive forested areas, making effective wildlife governance crucial.

The policy seeks to preserve the region’s biodiversity while maintaining the economic viability of rural communities, reflecting a broader push for integrated environmental stewardship in the Italian region.
