Tuscany commuters demand compensation as Rome‑Pisa railway works cause prolonged disruptions

A committee of commuters on the Costa Tirrenica has called on regional infrastructure minister Filippo Boni, RFI and Trenitalia to address what they describe as a “critical situation” on the Rome‑Pisa railway. The line is subject to multiple work programmes extending to 2026, including maintenance between Follonica and Grosseto, track renewal between Gavorrano and Campiglia Marittima, and an ERTMS upgrade between Grosseto and Capalbio. June 11‑14 work on the Rome‑Civitavecchia segment will add further cancellations, timetable changes and bus substitutions. Commuters say the overlapping projects create a six‑hour service gap on the Campiglia Marittima‑Orbetello stretch, severely affecting students, workers and season‑ticket holders. The committee is seeking verification that the June 2026 service conditions trigger the compensation provisions of regional decree Art. 106/2018 and the regional bonus scheme, urging that disruption metrics consider cancellations, reduced routes, split trains and intermediate delays rather than aggregate line reliability scores.
