Tuscany Health Councilor reviews regional services amid hospital disputes

Tuscany Regional Health Councilor Monia Monni has conducted visits to Siena and Radda in Chianti to evaluate territorial healthcare services. In Siena, Monni met with the Sienese Health Society mayors and visited the Casa della Comunità HUB in Pian d’Ovile, a facility designed to provide 24/7 primary care and assistance. In Radda in Chianti, she inspected a building currently under renovation that will host a new Asl Toscana sud est facility.

However, Monni’s recent statements have sparked political tension regarding healthcare in the Pistoia mountains. Following comments made at a political event, local opposition leaders and community committees are protesting the potential loss of emergency room services at Pacini Hospital in San Marcello Piteglio. Critics argue that the decision to exclude the hospital from being recognized as a disadvantaged area service point ignores geographic distances and the lack of alternative local services. While the regional government cites a chronic shortage of doctors as a justification, local representatives and opposition councilors have vowed to continue their fight to defend mountain healthcare access.
