Tuscany launches AIB-Wind app for forest fire monitoring

The Tuscany Region has introduced ‘AIB-Wind’, an experimental application developed by the Consorzio LaMMA – CNR to support forest fire prevention and firefighting activities. The tool provides critical meteorological data, including wind speed, gusts, temperature, humidity, and precipitation, for any specific location within the region.

A key feature of the application is its ability to function in areas without cellular data coverage. If the app is updated before deployment, field teams can consult the information directly on their devices offline. Alternatively, control room operators can receive coordinates via radio, identify the location in the app, and transmit the forecasted values back to the teams.

Presented by Tuscany Region President Eugenio Giani and Metrocittà Mayor Sara Funaro, the app aims to improve the assessment of fire evolution and enhance the safety of personnel operating in the field.
