Tuscany launches recruitment to address family doctor shortage

The Tuscany Region has issued a call for applications to address a structural shortage of family doctors in several areas, including Porto Santo Stefano. The regional notice, published on September 23, seeks to fill vacant primary care roles, with the application deadline set for October 13.

In Porto Santo Stefano alone, approximately 625 citizens are currently without a designated family doctor. The regional call covers several territories, including Capalbio, Isola del Giglio, Magliano in Toscana, Monte Argentario, Orbetello, Pitigliano, and Sorano. Specifically, three positions are designated for the main clinic in Porto Santo Stefano, one for Isola del Giglio, and one for the area between Fonteblanda and Talamone.

Roberta Caldesi, director of the Colline dell’Albegna district, stated that ensuring a doctor for every citizen remains a priority. While the recruitment process is underway, the ASL Toscana Sud Est is maintaining assistance through existing general practitioners and advanced hourly clinics at the community house. Citizens can access non-urgent medical care via the 116117 European number.
