Tuscany officials move toward authorizing Peccioli waste plant

Tuscany Region President Eugenio Giani has signaled support for the authorization of an oxy-combustor plant in Peccioli following a positive environmental impact assessment (VIA). The project, managed by the public company Belvedere, is intended to improve local waste management and potentially prevent increases in waste disposal fees for citizens by reducing the need to transport waste to other regions like Lombardy and Veneto.

The proposed facility represents a significant investment, estimated at approximately 130 million euros. While regional leadership views the plant as a strategic step toward closing the waste cycle, local political discussions in Cascina have raised questions regarding the project's economic impact. Local councilors have requested clarity on the role of RetiAmbiente, the waste cycle manager for ATO Toscana Costa, and whether the investment will result in savings or increased costs for local residents through the Tari (waste tax).
