Tuscany Region Arranges Extra Ferry Service to Island of Giglio

The private ferry operator Maregiglio is undergoing extensive maintenance, leaving its vessel unable to carry automobiles and replaced by a smaller boat that also cannot transport cars. The disruption affects residents, workers and a surge of tourists traveling between Porto Santo Stefano and the Island of Giglio during the peak summer period.

Regional transport assessor Filippo Boni asked the public‑service operator Toremar to provide an extraordinary service on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 August, adding two extra round‑trips after the regular schedule. The Tuscany region will continue to monitor the situation and coordinate with the involved parties until Maregiglio’s service is fully restored in the coming days.
