Tuscany Regional Council Approves Motion to Safeguard Monte dei Paschi di Siena

The Regional Council of Tuscany voted unanimously to approve a motion urging the national government to guarantee the industrial, occupational and territorial future of Monte dei Paschi di Siena. The text calls for the protection of the bank’s 4,400 jobs in the region, the retention of its headquarters and general management in Siena, and the preservation of the Monte dei Paschi brand and a degree of managerial autonomy.

The motion was drafted by the majority groups and amended by the Brothers of Italy (FdI) representative Enrico Tucci, who highlighted the bank’s role as the largest employer in Tuscany and an “identity factor” for the city of Siena. Support was voiced by Democratic Party leader Simone Bezzini and the Green–Left coalition, all urging the government to use any available tools to prevent the bank from being swallowed by the broader “risk‑bank” (risiko bancario) scenario.
