Tuscany Regional Council urged to fast‑track wildlife plan to curb ungulate damage

The Tuscany regional council is set to consider the regional wildlife plan during its four‑day session that began on 28 July. The plan, aimed at addressing the longstanding damage caused by ungulates and other wildlife to farms, is being pushed by agricultural organisations for immediate approval.

Federico Taddei, president of Cia Siena, urged councillors to adopt the plan without delay, insisting it must include stronger measures such as sustainable ungulate density, more effective control actions, reinforced damage‑prevention tools and full compensation for farms hurt by wildlife. He also called for better management in areas where hunting is prohibited, nature reserves and parks.

Valentino Berni, president of Cia Toscana, echoed the urgency, describing the plan as a necessary programming instrument that will enable farmers to plan and invest. He stressed that subsequent implementing acts will be required to turn the programme into concrete action.
