Tuscany repurposes seized mafia assets for community use
In Tuscany, particularly in the Maremma and Val di Cornia regions, assets seized from organized crime are being repurposed to support local communities and provide opportunities for young people. These properties, which include villas, lands, and warehouses, are being transformed through social agriculture, cooperatives, and educational initiatives to foster an economy based on legality and dignity.
Data from the Regional Observatory on assets confiscated from organized crime, updated as of August 31, 2026, shows that Tuscany has 702 total assets recorded, including real estate and businesses. Of these, 308 assets have been designated for specific uses, while 394 remain under management. Currently, the portion of assets successfully designated for social use stands at approximately 44 percent.
